The Reverend Thomas Tsakounis
Tom is a lifelong student, dedicated husband, father and son, accomplished professional and strongly believes in the Great Commandment in Matthew 22, 37-39: “37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Tom first received his calling to religious life in his pre-adolescent years and as he followed his vocation, he became aware of opposing beliefs that left him feeling conflicted with his faith tradition so he decided to follow alternative paths to being of service to others and connecting with the Divine.
In the spirit of service Tom went on to earn two Master's degrees, one in Natural Health and the other in Community Mental Health with a specialization in Pastoral Counseling. Tom explored a number of approaches to Integrative Health, seeking to tend to the whole person in mind, body and spirt. His journey led him to become a Registered Herbalist, specializing in Western Herbs; Energy work including Chakra Balancing and Master Reiki Practitioner and Teacher and Maryland State Licensure as Clinical, Professional, Pastoral Counselor in private practice for over 10 years. His Adlerian approach to mental health is steeped in the belief of unconditional positive regard, non-judgment and empathy for all.
As is often the case, God called to Tom again in his adult life and urged him to seek out religious orders despite being discouraged in his youth. This time, better poised to honor God’s call, Tom found The Free Anglican Mission Society and applied for admittance. Tom was ordained in January 2022 and is now the Vicar at Saint Francis Anglican Church in Silver Spring, MD 20901.
